HTC announces One A9, Desire 828 Dual SIM for India; to go on sale in December

HTC has finally announced the much-awaited HTC One A9 smartphone for the Indian market. The smartphone was announced alongside the Desire 828 Dual SIM, which was a mid-range device which was launched for the Chinese markets. Both smartphones will arrive in India by December and for now HTC has not given out any details regarding their pricing; but stated that the same will be announced a few days before launch.
The HTC One A9 clearly needs no introductions. Its claim to fame unfortunately came from the fact that it looks pretty similar to the Apple iPhone 6 and 6s. Still then, HTC has delved into the details and upon a closer look, users will notice the differences.
The all-metal design seems inspired from HTC’s previous flagship the One M9 while the fingerprint reader on the front is similar to the one on the HTC One M9+. And expertise in metal shows with an almost seamless design with the only resemblance to the iPhone being the single colour front bezel and the gaps for the antenna bands on the back.
Inside, the flagship smartphone is pretty-much a mid-ranger and this is a bit surprising considering the smartphone’s expected price tag. The One A9 variant that has been announced for India, packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Pricing factors may have forced HTC to leave out the 16 GB version that comes with 2 GB of RAM. There’s also micro SD card expansion up to 2 TB for those who need it.
On the front, we get a 5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. On the back, we have a 13 MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture, BSI sensor behind it with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) running the show. HTC claims that primary camera also features a sapphire lens for the cover. Coming to front-facing camera, we have a 4 MP UltraPixel unit that is similar to what we saw on the One M9.
The smartphone packs in the usual connectivity options including 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. All of the above is powered by a 2150 mAh battery and the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with HTC Sense UI out of the box.
Also launched was the HTC Desire 828, a mid-range device that becomes the first smartphone in its Desire series to feature OIS. The features a 5.5 inch Full HD display and a 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6753 SoC coupled with 2 GB of RAM. There’s 16 GB of internal storage that is also expandable via a micro SD card slot. The camera department consists of a 13 MP OIS unit on the back and an UltraPixel unit on the front. The handset features a dual 4G SIM set up and powers all of the above with a 2800 mAh battery.

All Reliance subscribers in India can now access free Internet via Facebook’s Free Basics

Reliance subscribers across India can now access Free Basics by Facebook to try basic Internet services for free.
Mark Zuckerberg today through a
Facebook post announced that all Reliance subscribers across India can now access free Internet, for limited basic services, via Facebook’s Free Basics.
In October last year, Facebook had launched Internet.org to provide basic Internet services for free of cost to Reliance customers in six Indian states- Tamil Nadu, Mahararashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, and Telangana. With this announcement from Zuckerberg, all Reliance subscribers across India can now have similar access.
Facebook’s global Internet project called Internet.org was recently renamed as Free Basics by Facebook. The ambitious free Internet project took plenty of flak on social media after experts questioned the intentions of Facebook on grounds of net neutrality.
Free Basics by Facebook app is available on all Android phones.

Samsung W2016 Dual-Display Android Flip Phone With 3GB RAM Launched

Samsung has introduced a new flip phone, the W2016, in China. The latest Android-based dual-screen flip phone is now listed on Samsung's China site. Unfortunately, there is no word on the pricing and availability details of the Samsung W2016 .
The new flip phone from Samsung features two 3.9-inch Super Amoled touchscreens, on the inside and the outside of the top half of the handset, both featuring a WXGA (768x1280 pixels) resolution. It features a T9 physical keyboard alongside the dual touchscreens.

The Samsung W2016 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with the company's TouchWiz running on top. The China listing of the new flip phone stresses that the handset has been built out of metal and glass mainly. It offers dual-SIM support and comes with 4G LTE, 3G, and 2G connectivity options. The Samsung China listing reveals that the handset supports China Mobile networks. We can expect the South Korean company to release the handset with more mobile carriers in China.
An octa-core processor powers the Samsung W2016, clocked at 1.5GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM. The new flip phone sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera also on board. The camera sensors on the Samsung W2016 can be expected to pack the same sensors as the company's high-end handsets such as Samsung Galaxy S6 , Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5 . There is 64GB of inbuilt storage on the new Samsung flip phone and it doesn't support expandable storage. It comes with 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, and Micro-USB connectivity options.
It is backed by a 2000mAh battery with no word on the talk time and standby time delivered. The official listing suggests that the W2016 smartphone supports fast-charging that can offer up to 50 percent of charge in just 30 minutes of charging. The new flip phone from Samsung measures 120.4x61x15.1mm and weighs 204 grams.
Considering that Samsung has previously launched flip phones in India including the Galaxy Golden , which was released for the Indian market in 2014, we can expect Samsung may launch the W2016 in India. Samsung back in August,
expanding its flip phone portfolio, had launched the G9198 flip phone in China.
Notably, the Samsung SM-W2016, thought to be the anticipated Galaxy Golden 3 flip phone smartphone, was
spotted in GFXBench benchmarks last month as well as was seen in Tenaa listing earlier this month. The handset however has been unveiled without the Golden moniker.

UMi Rome launched – 5.5″ AMOLED Display, 3GB RAM and octa-core processor for US$89.99

There are more Chinese smartphone manufacturers these days than the number of fingers on your hands. One thing they all have in common is providing high end specs at low costs. However, the UMi Rome is probably one of the best when you compare the kind of specs you get for the price.
The smartphone has a design that almost clones the Samsung Galaxy Note5. It has the same curved back as well. The Rome packs a slightly smaller 5.5″ display compared to the 5.7″ display on the Note5 though. The resolution too is lower as it is a 720p panel but an AMOLED one nonetheless. It also has a curved 2.5D curved glass display.
It is powered by a 64bit octa core Mediatek MT6753 processor that’s clocked in at 1.3GHz and 3GB of RAM. There’s 16GB of internal memory but they haven’t made it clear whether the smartphone has a microSD card slot or not. The primary camera is a 13 Megapixel Sony IMX164 sensor while there is a front facing 2 Megapixel camera which has an LED flash as well.
The device has a slim waistline at 7.9mmThe device will support 4G LTE bands around the world and will have a 2500 mAH battery. The device will run on Android Lollipop 5.1 when it releases in China in December for a price of US$89.99 which translates to roughly around Rs 5,950 which is really good value for money. As of now, the company hasn’t revealed plans to release it in India but we could expect it to release sometime shortly after either.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 14nm soc with 64-bit kryo CPU & adreno 530 Gpu launched

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 820 at the MWC earlier this year. At that time it confirmed that it will use custom 64-bit CPU architecture in their own ARMv8-based Qualcomm Kryo CPU and also said that it will be based on FinFET process node. Later it confirmed Adreno 530 GPU for the chip and also said that it will offer 40% graphics performance, compute capabilities, and power usage compared to Adreno 430. It recently
confirmed X12 LTE modem and

Would love to have less friction in working with govt: Satya Nadella

"I would love to have less friction in doing business, as I am a person who always pushes for more. At the same time, I don't think if things have not changed, we'd have been able to achieve what we've achieved in the past 12 months with our cloud offering in this country. But I like to push for more," Nadella told a select group of editors.
The Hyderabad-born Nadella, the first Microsoft chief from outside the US, was in Mumbai to launch his company's largest-ever customer conference here as a part of the Richmond-based tech giant's 25 years of operations in the country.
Explaining further, Nadella said he is surprised by the number of government bodies that have adopted Microsoft's cloud services launched one year ago with three cloud data centres in Mumbai, Pune and Chennai.
"I am extremely positive about the cloud business. It's not just private sector but a large number of government bodies are already on our cloud platform," said Nadella.
Microsoft is in India for the long-term, he said.
"What is happening here is not only in the government, but also in the private sector, the broader economy as a whole, and that's where my optimism comes from.
"Also, looking at the progress we've made in the last 12 months in the cloud business, I think this was possible because of all the structural reforms happening," he said.
However, the tech guru was quick to add that he would be happy to see faster growth, saying "we as a company always want to go faster and well, we want more of course, while at the same time I am optimistic at the rate of change that's happening, and the rate of adoption.
"Because it's one thing to open something up, but it's much more gratifying to see that what you have done is actually at the hands of entrepreneurs, public sector organisations and large businesses been converted into value both locally and globally," Nadella said.
After being in one of the lowest among the nations in ease of doing business ranking, the World Bank last week ranked India at 130, up 14 notches

BlackBerry priv Android to go on sale from November 6

Bengaluru: AT&T Inc said on Monday it would offer BlackBerry Ltd's new Android-powered smartphone in its retail stores in the United States and online from Friday.
AT&T said it would be the first US carrier to offer the BlackBerry Priv, powered by Google's Android mobile platform.
Waterloo, Ontario-based BlackBerry's move to launch an Android phone marks a shift away from its own BlackBerry 10 platform, which failed to regain market share ceded to Apple Inc's iPhone and a slew of Android-powered devices.
BlackBerry also closed on Monday the acquisition of rival mobile software provider Good Technology Corp, which it bought for $425 million to boost its ability to help corporate clients manage smartphones running on different operating systems.
BlackBerry's shares were up 1.8 percent at C$9.70 in afternoon trading in Toronto.

Internet via Baloons: GOOGLE may join with BSNL for testing

Internet firm Google is working with the government on a pilot project for providing Internet connectivity by using large balloons.
Google, under its 'Project Loon', is using big balloons floating at a height of 20 kilometer above earth surface for transmission of Internet services. It has already tested this technology in New Zealand, California (the US) and Brazil.
"Google approached government to set up the Loon project and Drone-based Internet transmission. The government has approved testing of Loon project only as of now. A committee under chairmanship of Secretary, DEITY, has been formed to work on it," an official source told PTI.
Google may initially partner with BSNL for testing this technology by using broadband spectrum in 2.6 Ghz band.
When contacted, a Google spokesperson refused to comment.
The technology, used for 4G services, has potential to replace mobile towers as it can directly transmit signals on 4G mobile phones.
As per Google, each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area about 40 km in diameter using a wireless communications technology called LTE or 4G.
To use LTE, Project Loon partners with telecommunications companies to share cellular spectrum so that people will be able to access the Internet everywhere directly from their phones and other LTE-enabled devices.
Google uses solar panel and wind to power electronic equipment in the balloon throughout the day.
The source said that Google may operate as technology service provider and not as internet service provider.
"The DEITY committee is looking at various aspects to facilitate test like identifying locations, coordination with various agencies. Under the Drone project, Google had plans to transmit internet on ground using 8 big solar powered drones but that has not been cleared by government yet," sources added.
