HTC announces One A9, Desire 828 Dual SIM for India; to go on sale in December

HTC has finally announced the much-awaited HTC One A9 smartphone for the Indian market. The smartphone was announced alongside the Desire 828 Dual SIM, which was a mid-range device which was launched for the Chinese markets. Both smartphones will arrive in India by December and for now HTC has not given out any details regarding their pricing; but stated that the same will be announced a few days before launch.
The HTC One A9 clearly needs no introductions. Its claim to fame unfortunately came from the fact that it looks pretty similar to the Apple iPhone 6 and 6s. Still then, HTC has delved into the details and upon a closer look, users will notice the differences.
The all-metal design seems inspired from HTC’s previous flagship the One M9 while the fingerprint reader on the front is similar to the one on the HTC One M9+. And expertise in metal shows with an almost seamless design with the only resemblance to the iPhone being the single colour front bezel and the gaps for the antenna bands on the back.
Inside, the flagship smartphone is pretty-much a mid-ranger and this is a bit surprising considering the smartphone’s expected price tag. The One A9 variant that has been announced for India, packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Pricing factors may have forced HTC to leave out the 16 GB version that comes with 2 GB of RAM. There’s also micro SD card expansion up to 2 TB for those who need it.
On the front, we get a 5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. On the back, we have a 13 MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture, BSI sensor behind it with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) running the show. HTC claims that primary camera also features a sapphire lens for the cover. Coming to front-facing camera, we have a 4 MP UltraPixel unit that is similar to what we saw on the One M9.
The smartphone packs in the usual connectivity options including 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. All of the above is powered by a 2150 mAh battery and the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with HTC Sense UI out of the box.
Also launched was the HTC Desire 828, a mid-range device that becomes the first smartphone in its Desire series to feature OIS. The features a 5.5 inch Full HD display and a 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6753 SoC coupled with 2 GB of RAM. There’s 16 GB of internal storage that is also expandable via a micro SD card slot. The camera department consists of a 13 MP OIS unit on the back and an UltraPixel unit on the front. The handset features a dual 4G SIM set up and powers all of the above with a 2800 mAh battery.

All Reliance subscribers in India can now access free Internet via Facebook’s Free Basics

Reliance subscribers across India can now access Free Basics by Facebook to try basic Internet services for free.
Mark Zuckerberg today through a
Facebook post announced that all Reliance subscribers across India can now access free Internet, for limited basic services, via Facebook’s Free Basics.
In October last year, Facebook had launched Internet.org to provide basic Internet services for free of cost to Reliance customers in six Indian states- Tamil Nadu, Mahararashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, and Telangana. With this announcement from Zuckerberg, all Reliance subscribers across India can now have similar access.
Facebook’s global Internet project called Internet.org was recently renamed as Free Basics by Facebook. The ambitious free Internet project took plenty of flak on social media after experts questioned the intentions of Facebook on grounds of net neutrality.
Free Basics by Facebook app is available on all Android phones.

Samsung W2016 Dual-Display Android Flip Phone With 3GB RAM Launched

Samsung has introduced a new flip phone, the W2016, in China. The latest Android-based dual-screen flip phone is now listed on Samsung's China site. Unfortunately, there is no word on the pricing and availability details of the Samsung W2016 .
The new flip phone from Samsung features two 3.9-inch Super Amoled touchscreens, on the inside and the outside of the top half of the handset, both featuring a WXGA (768x1280 pixels) resolution. It features a T9 physical keyboard alongside the dual touchscreens.

The Samsung W2016 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with the company's TouchWiz running on top. The China listing of the new flip phone stresses that the handset has been built out of metal and glass mainly. It offers dual-SIM support and comes with 4G LTE, 3G, and 2G connectivity options. The Samsung China listing reveals that the handset supports China Mobile networks. We can expect the South Korean company to release the handset with more mobile carriers in China.
An octa-core processor powers the Samsung W2016, clocked at 1.5GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM. The new flip phone sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera also on board. The camera sensors on the Samsung W2016 can be expected to pack the same sensors as the company's high-end handsets such as Samsung Galaxy S6 , Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5 . There is 64GB of inbuilt storage on the new Samsung flip phone and it doesn't support expandable storage. It comes with 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, and Micro-USB connectivity options.
It is backed by a 2000mAh battery with no word on the talk time and standby time delivered. The official listing suggests that the W2016 smartphone supports fast-charging that can offer up to 50 percent of charge in just 30 minutes of charging. The new flip phone from Samsung measures 120.4x61x15.1mm and weighs 204 grams.
Considering that Samsung has previously launched flip phones in India including the Galaxy Golden , which was released for the Indian market in 2014, we can expect Samsung may launch the W2016 in India. Samsung back in August,
expanding its flip phone portfolio, had launched the G9198 flip phone in China.
Notably, the Samsung SM-W2016, thought to be the anticipated Galaxy Golden 3 flip phone smartphone, was
spotted in GFXBench benchmarks last month as well as was seen in Tenaa listing earlier this month. The handset however has been unveiled without the Golden moniker.

UMi Rome launched – 5.5″ AMOLED Display, 3GB RAM and octa-core processor for US$89.99

There are more Chinese smartphone manufacturers these days than the number of fingers on your hands. One thing they all have in common is providing high end specs at low costs. However, the UMi Rome is probably one of the best when you compare the kind of specs you get for the price.
The smartphone has a design that almost clones the Samsung Galaxy Note5. It has the same curved back as well. The Rome packs a slightly smaller 5.5″ display compared to the 5.7″ display on the Note5 though. The resolution too is lower as it is a 720p panel but an AMOLED one nonetheless. It also has a curved 2.5D curved glass display.
It is powered by a 64bit octa core Mediatek MT6753 processor that’s clocked in at 1.3GHz and 3GB of RAM. There’s 16GB of internal memory but they haven’t made it clear whether the smartphone has a microSD card slot or not. The primary camera is a 13 Megapixel Sony IMX164 sensor while there is a front facing 2 Megapixel camera which has an LED flash as well.
The device has a slim waistline at 7.9mmThe device will support 4G LTE bands around the world and will have a 2500 mAH battery. The device will run on Android Lollipop 5.1 when it releases in China in December for a price of US$89.99 which translates to roughly around Rs 5,950 which is really good value for money. As of now, the company hasn’t revealed plans to release it in India but we could expect it to release sometime shortly after either.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 14nm soc with 64-bit kryo CPU & adreno 530 Gpu launched

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 820 at the MWC earlier this year. At that time it confirmed that it will use custom 64-bit CPU architecture in their own ARMv8-based Qualcomm Kryo CPU and also said that it will be based on FinFET process node. Later it confirmed Adreno 530 GPU for the chip and also said that it will offer 40% graphics performance, compute capabilities, and power usage compared to Adreno 430. It recently
confirmed X12 LTE modem and

Would love to have less friction in working with govt: Satya Nadella

"I would love to have less friction in doing business, as I am a person who always pushes for more. At the same time, I don't think if things have not changed, we'd have been able to achieve what we've achieved in the past 12 months with our cloud offering in this country. But I like to push for more," Nadella told a select group of editors.
The Hyderabad-born Nadella, the first Microsoft chief from outside the US, was in Mumbai to launch his company's largest-ever customer conference here as a part of the Richmond-based tech giant's 25 years of operations in the country.
Explaining further, Nadella said he is surprised by the number of government bodies that have adopted Microsoft's cloud services launched one year ago with three cloud data centres in Mumbai, Pune and Chennai.
"I am extremely positive about the cloud business. It's not just private sector but a large number of government bodies are already on our cloud platform," said Nadella.
Microsoft is in India for the long-term, he said.
"What is happening here is not only in the government, but also in the private sector, the broader economy as a whole, and that's where my optimism comes from.
"Also, looking at the progress we've made in the last 12 months in the cloud business, I think this was possible because of all the structural reforms happening," he said.
However, the tech guru was quick to add that he would be happy to see faster growth, saying "we as a company always want to go faster and well, we want more of course, while at the same time I am optimistic at the rate of change that's happening, and the rate of adoption.
"Because it's one thing to open something up, but it's much more gratifying to see that what you have done is actually at the hands of entrepreneurs, public sector organisations and large businesses been converted into value both locally and globally," Nadella said.
After being in one of the lowest among the nations in ease of doing business ranking, the World Bank last week ranked India at 130, up 14 notches

BlackBerry priv Android to go on sale from November 6

Bengaluru: AT&T Inc said on Monday it would offer BlackBerry Ltd's new Android-powered smartphone in its retail stores in the United States and online from Friday.
AT&T said it would be the first US carrier to offer the BlackBerry Priv, powered by Google's Android mobile platform.
Waterloo, Ontario-based BlackBerry's move to launch an Android phone marks a shift away from its own BlackBerry 10 platform, which failed to regain market share ceded to Apple Inc's iPhone and a slew of Android-powered devices.
BlackBerry also closed on Monday the acquisition of rival mobile software provider Good Technology Corp, which it bought for $425 million to boost its ability to help corporate clients manage smartphones running on different operating systems.
BlackBerry's shares were up 1.8 percent at C$9.70 in afternoon trading in Toronto.

Internet via Baloons: GOOGLE may join with BSNL for testing

Internet firm Google is working with the government on a pilot project for providing Internet connectivity by using large balloons.
Google, under its 'Project Loon', is using big balloons floating at a height of 20 kilometer above earth surface for transmission of Internet services. It has already tested this technology in New Zealand, California (the US) and Brazil.
"Google approached government to set up the Loon project and Drone-based Internet transmission. The government has approved testing of Loon project only as of now. A committee under chairmanship of Secretary, DEITY, has been formed to work on it," an official source told PTI.
Google may initially partner with BSNL for testing this technology by using broadband spectrum in 2.6 Ghz band.
When contacted, a Google spokesperson refused to comment.
The technology, used for 4G services, has potential to replace mobile towers as it can directly transmit signals on 4G mobile phones.
As per Google, each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area about 40 km in diameter using a wireless communications technology called LTE or 4G.
To use LTE, Project Loon partners with telecommunications companies to share cellular spectrum so that people will be able to access the Internet everywhere directly from their phones and other LTE-enabled devices.
Google uses solar panel and wind to power electronic equipment in the balloon throughout the day.
The source said that Google may operate as technology service provider and not as internet service provider.
"The DEITY committee is looking at various aspects to facilitate test like identifying locations, coordination with various agencies. Under the Drone project, Google had plans to transmit internet on ground using 8 big solar powered drones but that has not been cleared by government yet," sources added.

From 256 kbps to 24 Mbps Broadband's growth in India

In India, broadband connections have improved tremendously and are showing no signs of slowing down. While speeds of 2Mbps or 4Mbps were acceptable a couple of years back, now it is relatively easy to afford connections with speeds up to 24Mbps. It’s not just the speeds either, and broadband penetration too is showing some positive signs. A recent TRAI report revealed that there are more than 160 lakh broadband subscribers in India, with nearly 6.8 lakh users added since December last year. Let’s take look at this growth in a bit more detail, and see what is driving it.
In addition to newer technologies, one of the primary drivers of this growth is the reduction in costs. It is easier and more affordable than ever to have a broadband connection at one’s home. Airtel, for one, is currently offering a 16Mbps connection with 80GB download limit and unlimited voice calling for just Rs 1,899 per month. This sort of a plan and pricing was unimaginable a couple of years back.
The penetration of smart devices too is increasing at a frightening pace, and content consumption too is at an all-time high. In a regular household there are more than one smartphone and computer, and more time is being spent on the Internet. With online video and music streaming services, and online gaming a common thing these days, speed and higher download limits is the need of the hour.

One Plus launched its own photography lens reflection

Just a day after announcing the OnePlus X, the Chinese smartphone maker has released its maiden photography related app called Reflexion. Available for free download on both the iOS and Android platforms, OnePlus says the app is inspired by and borrows its philosophy from the OnePlus X.
According to OnePlus, Reflexion is about “exploring contrasts and harmony in everyday moments.” The main premise of the app is the fact that you can use both the front and rear camera to capture the image. On opening the app, you are first prompted to click an image with the front-camera and then with the rear camera. The app basically divides a square display diagonally and each camera can be used to click an image which fills opposite triangles.

Samsung unveils $9.9 billion buyback as Q3 Profit rebounds

Tech giant Samsung Electronics Co Ltd on Thursday unveiled a 11.3 trillion won ($9.9 billion) share buyback after reporting its first on-year profit growth in two years thanks to strong component sales, pushing its shares sharply higher.
Samsung said it would cancel all shares purchased through the buyback, its biggest to date, and planned to give shareholders 30 percent to 50 percent of its free cash flow over the next three years, primarily through dividends.
The buyback, which will be carried out in phases over a year, will be welcome news for those investors who have been clamouring for bigger payouts from the world’s top smartphone maker, which has lost market share to rivals such as Apple Inc and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.
“Samsung’s decision to buy back and cancel its own shares was exactly what the market was hoping for,” HDC Asset Management fund manager Park Jung-hoon said.
Samsung’s shares touched a near six-month high and were up 2.3 percent as of 0210 GMT, outperforming a 0.2 percent rise for the broader market.
The maker of Galaxy-series handsets and tablets said third-quarter operating profit jumped 82 percent to 7.4 trillion won ($6.5 billion), in line with its guidance. Revenue rose 8.9 percent from a year earlier to 51.7 trillion won.
“In the fourth quarter, the company expects earnings to decline from the earlier quarter, as it does not expect the foreign exchange rate to have a positive effect,” Samsung said in a statement.
Exchange rate conditions such as the won’s weakness against the dollar led to a 800 billion won gain during the July-September period.
The mobile division posted its first on-year profit growth in two years, climbing 37 percent to 2.40 trillion won, thanks to strong sales of the Galaxy Note 5 tablet as well as new lower-end products.
But the chip division remained the top earner for the fifth-straight quarter with a record 3.66 trillion won profit. Healthy third-quarter returns have boosted hopes that Samsung’s profit recovery remains on track, although investors are sceptical about its ability to return to the record earnings it posted in 2013 on the back of its smartphone business.
Despite a major overhaul of its product lineup, Samsung’s smartphone shipments will shrink for the first time in 2015 due to competition from Apple Inc in the high-end market and Chinese rivals in the low end, according to researcher TrendForce.

Telecom operators warn of #Tariff hike

Seeking withdrawal of the new regulation on compensating callers for call drops, the telecom industry on Tuesday warned that the “grossly unjust” rules will lead to increase in mobile tariffs for consumers. The operators added zero call drop is impossible to achieve.
In a joint letter to the telecom regulator TRAI, the two industry bodies – COAI and AUSPI – said the regulation in fact will lead to a sharp increase in call drops rather than reducing them as countless customers will cause the calls to drop to obtain Rs 3 per day as compensation.
“To recover this cost of compensation, telecom operators will have to increase tariffs leading to customer spending more to purchase telecom services,” the letter added. Earlier this month, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) mandated telecom service providers to pay subscribers Rs 1 for every call drop they experience on their network, subject to a cap of three call drops a day, starting from January 1, 2016.

Mark Zuckerberg coming to Delhi at 28 Oct, 2016

Mark Zuckerberg is coming to Delhi next week where he will conduct a town hall meeting. We have already seen how India is important to Facebook , and how the social giant is doing its bit to tap into the startup boom in the country. In the run up to the town hall, here’s a look at an initiative that has constantly put the company and its CEO under the glaring spotlight — Internet.org.

Zuckerberg launched Internet.org last year with an aim of bringing affordable Internet access to the world. ”We believe that every person should have access to free basic internet services – tools for health, education, jobs and basic communication. We are looking forward to bringing free basic services to more countries soon,”

Zuckerberg had said.
The initiative was initially launched in Zambia, and six months later in partnership with RCom, the company
brought Internet.org to India. As a part of this initiative, RCom subscribers would be able to access 33 websites, including news, travel, sports, and local government sites among others for free.

While the intentions behind the initiative are noble, Facebook and Internet.org almost immediately faced a backlash from those in support of net neutrality . The backlash not only had Zuckerberg repeatedly defending his initiative , but its partners like NDTV, Cleartrip , Newshunt and Times Group withdrew support for the case.

YouTube may launch new programs exclusive to paid subscription

YouTube may soon release content that will be available exclusively for members of its upcoming paid subscription service. The company will announce some of its listed shows at an event on October 21. These will feature some big titles, and will only be accessible to those who have opted to pay for the service.
YouTube will continue to operate an ad-supported version of its website. It has stated that all videos that appear on the site will also be available on the paid version. The company had also asked all content providers who make use of advertisements on their site to generate money to participate in the subscription service as well. YouTube has not specified an exact date as to when the new service will be available, but Re/Code’s source have said that it will most likely become available in 2016.
Last month, it was reported that YouTube may be launching an ad-free subscription service on October 22. The service is expected to cost $10. Those who subscribe to the service will not only gain access to an ad-free version of YouTube, but also gain access to Music Key. Music Key is YouTube’s music streaming service that allows offline access, background playback, and more. YouTube had sent content owners an email asking them to accept the terms of the new conditions of service, by October 22 this year. They were asked to agree to the proposed changes, or their videos "will no longer be available for public display or monetization in the United States”, as per YouTube's disclaimer. The dates do match up to October 21, when YouTube is expected to announce its new programs. Hence, it is possible that the company might make its big announcement, on that day. However, as of now, there has been no official word from YouTube, or Google.
Google had launched its paid video subscription service in 2013, as a ‘pilot program’. Subscription plans started at 99 cents a month, and escalated to as high as $9.99 a month. At launch, it featured 53 channels which could be viewed on desktops, or mobile devices.

Samsung launch galaxy S7 in January 2016

Samsung plans to bring forward the unveiling of its next Galaxy S smartphone to January in an attempt to compete better with rival Apple Inc’s new iPhones, South Korea’s Electronic Times reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources. Yes, the rumoured Galaxy S7 may arrive in January 2016.
Samsung has in recent years announced new Galaxy S smartphones on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress trade show, which usually takes place between late February and early March. The world’s top smartphone maker unveiled its Galaxy Note 5 device in August this year, however, earlier than the typical September announcement.
A Samsung spokeswoman said the firm does not comment on rumors or speculation.
The South Korean firm has been unable to arrest its smartphone market slide despite a product lineup revamp. Researcher TrendForce says Samsung’s smartphone shipments will shrink by 1 percent this year, marking the firm’s first-ever annual decline.
Earlier this year, another report citing South Korea’s Electronic Times said that Samsung will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chips for the Galaxy S7 phones, which is expected to launch early next year and which will be sold in the United States and China. Galaxy S7 phones sold in other markets will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos processors, the paper said.

One password changing it's data format

1Password has announced that it's switching the format it uses to store its users' data, so that less of the metadata it holds is left unencrypted.
Over the weekend, Microsoft software engineer Dale Myers wrote a blog post highlighting the fact that 1Password's AgileKeychain data format left some important metadata unencrypted. As 1Password points out, it was a known issue, but it did leave the URLs of the sites a user relies on the service to log in to open and exposed. He pointed out that this kind of data could in theory be used to identify which websites you use, what software licenses you own and where you hold bank accounts.
While 1Password points out that password data has remained secure the whole while, it's now also decided to roll out its OPVault data format, which encrypts much more metadata. In fact, it's been using the OPVault format on some platforms since 2012, but has been reluctant to roll it out widely because of backwards compatibility concerns. Now, though, it's decided to go the whole hog, explaining that "Dale reminded us that its time to move on."
Over the coming weeks, then, 1Password will update its software across all platforms to use the OPVault data format. Which will keep Myers happy, and your personal data secure.

Nexus 5X

According to Hiroshi Lockheimer, senior VP of Android, the "X" in Nexus 5X is in reference to the "core of the Nexus brand." By that, he's probably referring to the Nexus 5. Decked up in a polycarbonate material akin to Google's iconic 2013 phone, the similarities are striking. It's just as easy to hold, and the 5.2-inch display makes it a relatively compact choice in a world where 5.5+ inch screens are common. The rear camera is similar to that of the Nexus 6P with 1.55 µm pixels to capture a whole lot more light than the snappers on previous Nexus phones.

Nexus 6P
Google's Nexus team wasn't exaggerating when it said that the "P" in Nexus 6P stands for premium. Not only does the metal finish look slick, it feels good to hold as well. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S6 and its glass-clad variants, this phone isn't difficult to get a grip on. There's barely any chance of it slipping from your hand - always a good thing.

How to make a bootable USB for windows 10

Now that Windows 10 is available for download, many of you might be planning to install Microsoft's new desktop operating system on your computer. There are plenty of reasons to install Windows, anddifferent editions to choose from. You can automatically upgrade to Windows 10 or you can make a bootable disk to install Windows 10 on one or more computers in a hurry.
You can choose to make a Windows 10 bootable USB disk or DVD, though the USB offers some advantages like faster read/ write speeds. You are also likely to have a USB drive lying around, or your computer may not have a DVD drive, in which case the decision is already made for you.
Make sure that the USB or DVD (if rewritable) you pick to be your Windows 10 bootable media has no important data on it, because this process will format the drive, which means you will lose everything on it. Also make sure that the drive is of minimum 4GB capacity, as the process requires 3GB of space. With that in mind, here's is the list of steps you need to follow to make a bootable Windows 10 drive:
1) Download Windows 10 media creation tool. Here are links to download the Windows 10 media creation tool for 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit(x64) Windows respectively. To find out which type of Windows you are running, go to Start, type Control panel, select System and security, and then, under System, look at the value for System type, or check this step by step guide by Microsoft.
2) Once Media creation tool is installed, launch the application. When asked What do you want to do? select Create installation media for another PC, and click Next.

3) On the next screen, select your preferred Language and Architecture as determined in Step 1. Also choose Edition as explained below and click Next.
windows_10_usb_select_language_ndtv.jpg
If you are currently running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 with Bing, or Windows 10 Home, choose Windows 10 Home as Edition.
If you are currently running Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8 Professional, Windows 8.1 Professional with Media Centre, or Windows 10 Pro, choose Windows 10 Pro as Edition.
If you are currently running Windows 8 Single Language, Windows 8.1 Single Language, or Windows 8 Single Language with Bing, choose Windows 10 Home Single Language as Edition.
If you are currently running Windows 8 Chinese Language Edition, Windows 8.1 Chinese Language Edition, or Windows 8 Chinese Language Edition with Bing, choose Windows 10 Home China as Edition.
4) If you are creating a bootable Windows 10 USB disk, select USB flash drive and click Next to follow the rest of the steps. A reminder once again you will lose whatever data is there in the drive you select.
windows_10_usb_select_media_ndtv.png
If you want to create a bootable Windows 10 USB DVD, select ISO file. Make sure you have ISO file of the Windows 10 version you selected in step 3 handy. ISO files are basically images of the setup files, and the Windows 10 ISO files are available from Microsoft
Once Windows 10 media creation tool has finished doing its job, you should have a Windows 10 bootable USB disk/ DVD drive, depending upon the option you chose.
If you have problems with any of the above steps, you try using the Windows USB/ DVD Tool, which was designed for Windows 7, but handles Windows 10 just fine. You can use this guide in case you need any assistance with that, just use Windows 10 ISO files instead.
